Piano Players is a state-of-the-art teaching and recital facility, conveniently located on Mason-Montgomery Road, across from P&G, within one mile of I-71 and a few miles of I-75. Our address is 8479 Mason Montgomery Road, Suite 1. Mason, OH 45040

Programs

Piano Players offers both small group and private piano lessons, as well as guitar, voice, flute, and trumpet lessons for students of all ages and capabilities. Currently, our youngest student is 3 years old and our most senior student is in their upper 70s. We believe that music learning is for everyone, and we are here to help our students achieve their goals, whether that means competing at the highest level, having fun, experiencing music therapeutically, or anything in-between!

Below are some of our basic program offerings, for both group and private lessons, as well as ACE Scholarship and summer camp information. Depending on your interest, we are able to customize any program to fit your goals and schedule.

Music Summer Camps

Does your student love music? Well, so do we! Our half-day summer camps are for students ages 7 and up and are packed with musical activities including lessons, small group collaboration, songwriting, music history, music theory, games, music technology, and more. Choose from all levels of piano, beginner guitar, or music theory. Our faculty is comprised of fully degreed professionals and our studio is state-of-the-art. You won’t want to miss this immersive experience that your student will be talking about for years to come!

Who We Are

Piano Players is directed by Rodrigo and Shannon Vasconcelos.

 

Rodrigo is a licensed Music Educator, an Examiner for The Royal Conservatory of Music, and an RCM Advanced Piano Specialist who holds a Master's Degree in Music. He began performing with the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra as a young adult and has been awarded various national medals and honors throughout his international performance career. Rodrigo has over 20 years of teaching experience and enjoys presenting lectures about pedagogy and student learning strategies at State and National teachers conferences.

 

Shannon holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music and is a certified ESL (English as a Second Language) Instructor. She has performed with various groups throughout the United States, Europe, and South America. Shannon has been teaching both voice and piano to children and youth for nearly two decades and is dedicated to furthering research concerning the connections between music education and its influence on the success of children in other academic areas.

Rodrigo and Shannon have been married for over 18 years and are currently raising their two children, John and Savannah, in the Cincinnati area.

Lana Krayterman is an active piano teacher, soloist, chamber musician, and accompanist, having taught and performed locally in the Tri-state area as well as in Russia and Europe. She has received various prizes and scholarships, including the International Piano Competition in Warsaw, International Chamber Music Competition in Prague, and European Summer Academy in Salzburg.

She loves to teach and impart her knowledge of music to all of her students. Her warm and patient teaching approach is particularly suitable for beginners, but her exceptional performance background and artistry give her the ability to confidently teach and prepare students at the most advanced levels.

Mrs. Krayterman obtained her Master’s degree from the University of Oregon and graduated with honors from the Belarusian State Conservatory and the Gnessin State Musical College (Moscow, Russia). She proudly represents the Russian piano teaching tradition that lays down the foundations for a relaxed way of playing, which gives confidence and technical security, while enabling one to produce a beautiful "singing" tone on the piano.

Besides teaching piano at Piano Players, Mrs. Krayterman also teaches classes at the University of Cincinnati.

Anna Greco is a soprano from Hamilton, Ohio. She received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Miami University of Ohio in 2022. Recent accolades include semi-finalist in the Camille Coloratura Competition, third place in the Great Lakes Region for NATS, fourth place in Ohio NATS, Outstanding Performer from Miami University, and a scholarship from the Three Arts Foundation. While at Miami University, she was a soloist with the Collegiate Chorale and Chamber Singers. In February 2020, Anna made her operatic debut as Barbarina in The Marriage of Figaro, a production that won an award from the National Opera Association for Best Collegiate Production. Some of her other roles at Miami University include Signora Naccarelli (The Light in the Piazza), a Field Mouse (The Wind in the Willows), and a Hippie Fairy (Hydrogen Jukebox). 

 

Ms. Greco's expert, passionate, and friendly approach to voice and piano teaching is among the reasons students of all ages and levels love being a part of her studio!

Elizabeth Larson is a piano, flute, and beginning trumpet teacher obtaining her Music Education degree from Miami University. Ms. Larson has received multiple awards, including the Three Arts Foundation, and the prestigious semi-finalist ranking at the 2022 and 2023 editions of the Miami Concerto Competition. She is a member of the Miami University Wind Ensemble and is a piano accompanist for many local studios.

 

At Piano Players, Ms. Larson teaches both group and private piano, as well as flute and beginning trumpet. Her creative and personable approach to teaching makes her studio the favorite place to be for all of her students, particularly for some of our youngest learners.

Roy Domoe teaches guitar, voice, ukulele, and beginner piano. He holds a Masters of Music in Vocal Performance from Miami University.

 

Mr. Domoe originally hails from California where he got his Bachelors of Music, performing in roles such as Leporello in Don Giovanni, and scene work in Acis & Galatea as Polyphemus and even more contemporary roles such as the Father in Paul's Case. He has performed with groups in San Francisco and Sacramento. His musical journey began with guitar at the age of 13, before moving to voice after he began college. Groups he has performed with include chamber groups like Camerata California and the Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera.

Yasuko Brecht is an accomplished piano instructor and piano accompanist with 35 years of experience. She earned her BM Piano Performance studying under Carlo Bussotti, and also studied Music Education and Chamber Music under Alexander String Quartet, at San Francisco State University receiving both the Carla Road and Janis D. Getz music scholarships.

Her experience teaching piano and YAMAHA Electone (Electronic Organ) in a variety of settings, both internationally and domestically, has informed her teaching philosophy of providing a tailored approach to each student’s needs and goals.

Mrs. Brecht has performed as a piano accompanist for CMEA (California Music Educators Association) solo ensemble competitions, Choirs, Instrument and Voice students, Eurythmy, and Quintet/Quartet/Trio chamber music groups.

Yasuko's piano performance experience includes piano solos/duets for community concerts as well as leading a Japanese women’s chorus, Harmony of Japan, performing both traditional and popular Japanese songs at events such as WSU Asian Culture Night, A World A’Fair and the Hiroshima-Nagasaki Commemoration Ceremony.

David Michel has been a member of the Piano Players faculty since 2020 and enjoys preparing students for success through piano instruction in both our group and private lesson settings. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northern Kentucky University and holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Composition with an emphasis in Piano.

David's patient approach to learning and the differentiated support he offers to each individual student makes him highly relatable and a true asset to our studio. He enjoys seeing his students succeed and develop a love for music and believes anyone with discipline and proper guidance will thrive in their piano journey. 

 

In addition to teaching piano, Mr. Michel maintains an active career as a performing artist and a rising composer. You may find his music on your favorite streaming service, or perhaps catch him on stage in a live show locally at Kings Island.

Shonda Malik earned her Bachelor's of Music Degree at Ohio University with a major in Music Therapy and is available to teach piano and flute lessons at Piano Players. Miss Shonda has enjoyed a lifetime of music making beginning with youth choirs, piano playing, school band, handbell choir, show choir, marching band, and school and community musicals. She has used her musical skills, especially voice and piano, in her professional career as a music therapist working with all ages from young children with developmental disabilities to seniors in dementia care and hospice. She has taught music lessons to children and adults for over 20 years.

 

Miss Shonda’s teaching approach includes exploring rhythmic and melodic instruments to help learn music fundamentals in a way that is fun and creative. She loves to incorporate music-learning games and has a nice collection. She encourages her students to select music that inspires them and believes learning music has many benefits and can open up a world of possibilities for self-expression and community music-making. Miss Shonda would love for you to join her in exploring the world of music together.
